The Centre for Reconciliation was nominated for two Mitzvah Day awards and we are proud to say we won the year-round award for the work of the Lincoln Hygiene Bank, bringing faith communities together through this and especially the winter appeal we did in November.

With the help and support of faith communities across Lincoln we are able to run Lincoln Hygiene Bank and have six locations across the city and all but one are in places of worship. Faith communities not only provide space for the hygiene session to be run but they provide committed volunteers too. Faith communities are also wonderful at providing donations for the hygiene sessions. Winter 2024 for Mitzvah Day and Seva Day we held the Winter Appeal and over a couple of months over 2,000 hygiene products were donated. The Hindu community collected donations at their Navratri and Diwali celebrations, some local churches made donations and Lincolnshire Jewish Community helped raise donations too. In November people of different faiths came together and counted, sorted and organised the donations. The Mayor of Lincoln, Councillor Alan Briggs, attended the launch of the winter appeal and said it was a great initiative that is helping those in need in the city and he was very supportive of this appeal.

Last night Subash Chellaiah, Charles Shaw and Rachael Phillips (Chair of Lincolnshire Jewish Community) attended the award ceremony in a Synagogue in London.

Rachael said ‘Lincolnshire Jewish Community are proud to work with Lincoln Hygiene Bank and The Centre for Reconciliation, and congratulations for winning the Mitzvah Day Award. By working together, we can create a better community and help others.’
