The Dialogue Society in collaboration with TCfR and Bishop Grosseteste University (BGU) held an Iftar, a Unity Ramadan Dinner, on 27thMarch evening. Around 60 people from different faiths, communities and civic guests attended the Iftar meal at BGU. Attending the event were TCfR board member, Dr. Mahfuzur Rahman, the Mayor of Lincoln, Councillor Alan Briggs and the Sherif, Councillor Brian Harding and former Mayors Councillor Chris Burke and Jackie Kirk. Stephen Griffiths MBE from the Lincoln Jewish Minyan Community was also in attendance.
Hilal Ozdemir, from the Dialogue Society was the lead organiser, said ‘We had an amazing Ramadan Dinner. From the delicious food to the beautifully decorated venue and most importantly bringing together people from Lincoln. It was a wonderful opportunity to contribute to our community.’
Some in attendance spoke about unity and its importance. Councillor Chris Burke said that is great that we are coming closer with our Muslim brothers and sisters. The Mayor said he was delighted to be invited, he said he has worked around the world with different communities and people of different faiths and he has always respected every persons views and he said it is important to do this. He talked about how important it is to listen as God gave us all one mouth but two ears so we should use our ears twice s much as we use our mouth.
